Every minute, we use 2 million single-use plastic bags globally.

It is estimated that more than 17bn plastic bags are given away by supermarkets annually.

Single-use bags produce almost 60,000 tonnes of waste.

A fully stocked grocery store lane has 400 medium single-use plastic bags,100 small single-use plastic bags,

200 large single-use plastic bags.

According to a new Ellen MacArthur Foundation, report launched at the World Economic Forum new plastics will consume 20% of all oil production within 35 years, up from an estimated 5% today.

Plastics production has increased twentyfold since 1964, reaching 311m tonnes in 2014

 It is expected to double again in the next 20 years and almost quadruple by 2050.

Despite the growing demand, just 5% of plastics are recycled effectively, while 40% end up in landfills and a third in fragile ecosystems such as the world’s oceans.
